As an ardent researcher on nematological sciences, he has pursued research programmes on the dynamics of plant parasitic nematodes, their interaction with soil borne pathogens and  devised integrated nematode management measures for important crops including rice, banana, sugarcane, tomato, brinjal and tuberose during his illustrious research career spanning over three decades. As a Principal investigator he has handled research projects sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi, Indian Council of Agricultural Research and United States Agency for international Development. His notable research pursuit in the recent years is the development of a bionematicide involving plant growth promoting rhizobacteria.

As an avid teacher of Nematology for undergraduate and post graduate courses for the past 18 years he has involved in formulation of syllabus and content for courses viz., Introductory to Plant Nematology, Nematode disease complex and Biological control of plant parasitic nematodes. He has so far guided eleven students leading to M.Sc., (Ag.) and Ph.D degrees. He has published over 75 papers in reputed national and international journals and serving as a technical editor in Madras Agricultural Journal since 2007. He served as the Head of the Department of Nematology at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore during 2004-07 and at present he is the Director, Centre for Plant Protection Studies, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore.
